Updated HIPA Regulations and Proclaiming Certain Subsections of HIPA

August 1, 2023 - Ron Kruzeniski, Information and Privacy Commissioner

Effective August 1, 2023, certain subsections of the Health Information Protection Act (HIPA) subsection 17(1), 18(2) and 18(4), have been proclaimed. Also, effective August 1 a new version of the HIPA regulations is in effect and should be available by the end of the week here. Below is a Q & A sheet issued by the Ministry of Health which explains the changes. Later my office will do a podcast on the changes but for now, the Q & A is a good summary of the things that have changed.
