Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner Tables 2025-2026 Annual Report
Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner, Grace Hession David, has tabled her office’s 2025-2026 Annual Report with the Legislative Assembly.
In her report, the Commissioner highlights the important work that has been done with rural municipalities. This included continuing efforts to provide assistance with the access to information legislation and requests, presenting at the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities in Regina and launching a workshop.
Over the course of the 2025-2026 fiscal year, the Office of the Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner also adopted a zero tolerance for the willful violation of privacy under our legislation.
“This office will now be naming those who have breached the privacy of the personal information and personal health information of the innocent victims of Saskatchewan who trust that their private information will be safe with government institutions and local authorities.”
Commissioner Hession David also seeks to address public concern related to privacy issues and the rapid growth of artificial intelligence.
“…the issues of excessive data collection, data sovereignty and the lack of informed consent with the eventual sharing of personal information are paramount when it comes to AI. This technology is here, and we remain hopeful that it can be harnessed to serve us in our daily lives and at the same time be crafted and regulated to ensure personal privacy and individual safety.”
In planning for the future, the Commissioner has outlined her 2025-2026 Strategic Plan below to assist in combating the growing concerns with education, privacy and the impact of artificial intelligence on Saskatchewan citizens. The following goals will be our primary focus this year:
- Public Information Accessibility
- Prioritizing Youth Online Privacy
- Raising Awareness Around Privacy Breaches
- Educating on Privacy Concerns and Artificial Intelligence
- Assisting Cyber Breach Victims
