On April 29 2019, Diane Aldridge and I had the opportunity to take part in a Webinar with Steven Dribnenki, Legal Counsel for SUMA. Over 200 had expressed an interest in attending or getting access later. The title was “LAFOIP 101”. My office is interested in other joint ventures like this. Earlier we did one with the school boards association. So if you think your organization might benefit from a joint webinar, please contact us.
After completing this webinar, I concluded it was a very good introduction to the world of access and privacy. It would be a good starting point for a new employee or contractor of a local authority.
Access and Privacy Best Practices in Healthcare
In this webinar, the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner presented to the Meadow Lake Tribal Council and discussed Access and Privacy Best Practices in Health Care.
We recognize that indigenous organizations will choose to interact with the provincial health care system in different way and as they do, they will need to consider access and privacy issues. In helping them chart the course forward, in the session we emphasized the importance of protecting personal health information in an organization’s custody or control regardless if a trustee as defined by The Health Information Protection Act and the need to have a privacy breach response plan in place.
