LA FOIP Foundations Webinar Series: Encore Event Announced

February 11, 2021 - Ron Kruzeniski, Information and Privacy Commissioner

On February 1st to 4th, my office delivered a webinar for local authorities. The first day was “LA FOIP 101: Clarifying the Act for Beginners” where the basics under LA FOIP were presented. On February 2nd, we had a panel of experts discussing “Municipal Sector: Practical Tips and Tricks”. On February 3rd, we had a panel discussing the education sector and the access and privacy problems that school divisions are wrestling with. On February 4th, the panel discussed Police Service issues that police forces are encountering.

Interest was high and we had over 400 attendees on the first day, 281 on the second day, 225 on the third day and 63 on the fourth day.

Before I go further, I need to thank the moderators of the panels, the panelists and our production team for the great job they did.

The session on municipalities generated some 74 comments and questions and we have been discussing how to effectively answer those questions. We have decided to have an encore municipal sector session. It will be on Monday, February 22nd, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. We are hoping all of the same panelists will be there.

My office has reviewed and categorized the questions and we will try to answer as many as we can on February 22nd. A complete list of those questions will be available that day.

Sometimes we will have to say, “That is a good question and with that amount of detail, you should contact your lawyer.” It can be very difficult to give precise answers to very specific questions.
