New Year – New Legislation – New Resources
Happy New Year!
Here at the IPC, we are excited to start 2018 off with new legislation. Amendments to The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) and The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (LA FOIP) came into effect on January 1, 2018. It is like Christmas morning all over again… at least for the Commissioner.
For a glimpse of the changes made to FOIP and LA FOIP, see Amendments to FOIP and LA FOIP Proclaimed.
Further, amendments were made to The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Regulations and The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Regulations.
Before Christmas, the IPC elves were busy updating as many resources on our website as possible. The majority of in house IPC resources have been updated and we will be working over the next few months to keep them as current as possible as the use and interpretation of these amendments evolves.
The IPC has also created 3 new resources that address certain amendments:
- Understanding the Duty to Assist
- Real Risk of Significant Harm (blog)
- Application to Disregard an Access to Information Request or Request for Correction
Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions about the amendments.
We look forward to working with you and the new legislation in the coming year!
The amendments have lead to updates in the resources listed below:
