Best Practices for the Management of Non-Work Related Personal Emails in Work-Issued Email Accounts: A Guide for Public Bodies

Recently, the Commissioner issued Review Report 007-2019 which dealt with an Applicant’s request to access non-work related personal emails that were stored in their work-issued email account after their employment had ceased. In that review, the Commissioner found that the requested records were not in the possession or under the control of the public body. However, the Commissioner offered recommendations and best practices to assist the public body in the management of personal emails.
